Project Overview:
As a subcontractor in collaboration with Farab, Al-ansar played a key role in the construction of the Uma Oya multi-purpose hydropower project.
This strategic project was developed to ensure sustainable energy supply, water resource management, and transfer of water for agricultural and drinking purposes. It is recognized as one of Sri Lanka’s flagship projects in the field of energy and water infrastructure development.
Project Details:
– Power Plant Capacity: 120  MW (2  units of 60  MW each)
– Water Transfer Volume: 145  million cubic meters per year
– Plant Type: Underground hydropower station
– Annual Energy Production: 290  GWh
Execution Activities:
– Civil works for the underground power plant
– Construction of two roller-compacted concrete (RCC) dams with heights of 38 m and 42.5 m
– Excavation and construction of 25 kilometers of water transfer tunnels
– Development of related civil facilities for water storage and conveyance systems
Al-ansar Achievements:
– Successful execution of one of the largest hydropower projects in Sri Lanka
– Contribution to the construction of an internationally-standardized hydroelectric power station
